ABOUT THIS SPACE

Mojoyinoluwa - MOJUN

[mo-jo-yin-o-lu-wa] • Yoruba

(n.) I enjoy the honey (sweetness) of God

Abigail Fakoya is a Nigerian-born, Grenada-raised visual artist, curator, and writer based between Essex and London. Her work investigates the emotional and psychological landscapes that shape human experience; how we feel, remember, and express ourselves within the world and within our bodies.

Working primarily through figurative abstraction, Abigail uses colour, gesture, and fragmented forms to explore the tension between what is held and what is released — the space between suppression and expression. Her practice is  influenced by her background in psychology, as well as a lifelong engagement with film and music, which inform the rhythm, tone, and emotional pacing of her visual and curatorial language.

Underpinning her work is a broader inquiry into how personal and collective emotional life is shaped by environment, culture, belief systems, and memory. She is interested in how inherited stories (social, spiritual, ancestral etc) condition our emotional worlds, and how art can create space to question, soften, or reimagine those internal architectures.

As a curator, Abigail is committed to storytelling as a method of care and cultural reflection. Her exhibitions often centre overlooked or marginalised perspectives, and engage the sensory, social, and imaginative possibilities of art as a way of being in relationship; with ourselves, with each other, and with the worlds we inhabit.

She currently works as an Exhibition Production Manager at a contemporary art Gallery in London, and holds a first-class BSc in Psychology and a Distinction in her MA in Curating. Across her practice, Abigail is drawn to the quiet but urgent work of emotional translation —turning interior states into colour, space, and story.

"Holy Spirit led, the name Mojun and this space was born from the desire to create and hold space for the exploration of joy and sweetness in creative practice."

The Mojun Art Space began as a personal exploration of the emotional landscapes that shape our identities and experiences. Through this platform, Abigail seeks to create a space where art and storytelling intersect, offering a window into the complexities of human emotion. As the platform evolves, the vision is to expand beyond individual practice, inviting other creatives to share their narratives and contribute to a collective tapestry of expression.

The goal is to cultivate a community that values emotional depth, authenticity, and the power of storytelling. By featuring diverse voices and perspectives, The Mojun Art Space aspires to be a dynamic platform that reflects the multifaceted nature of human experience and fosters connections through shared creative expression.
